Coconut Oil Uses {or ‘walk around smelling like a big Bounty’}

Chit chat April 23, 2016 Naomi

I do love a Bounty bar, so walking around smelling like one is not a big deal to me. If you cannot stand the smell of coconuts then lathering yourself head to toe in the stuff will not be your idea of heaven. Funnily enough I actually don’t like eating coconut, {bounty’s aside} but for all its lovely benefits the gains outweigh the horrible taste.

Why use coconut oil?? Well it is a fabulous source of healthy fats and does a lot of good for the body, including so the professionals say lowering cholesterol, improving digestion and immunity and helping with strong bones and teeth. Outwardly it is a super little moisturiser, nourishing dry skin and hair and can help soothe eczema and other skin conditions.

If you read my blog you will know I am a bit of a health freak, anything I can use or eat that is Organic and good I will, now don’t get me wrong I am no saint, I can’t walk past a cocktail bar without having a drink and I adore chocolate, but on the whole I like to go for the healthy alternative. Coconut oil is one of those things I have slipped into my beauty routine and I do like to think it is doing me some good.

How do I use it?? Well First I eat a couple of spoonfuls a day. You can cook with it but I have yet to do so. Taste wise it is like oily, slimy, coconut, lovely I hear you say, it is pretty grim but I do it anyway. Next up I melt it in the microwave and pour it in the bath as a bath oil, this is a accident waiting to happen as it leaves the bath like an oil slick so be careful!! I will say you have the softest skin afterwards though.

Pre- bath throw a little onto the ends of your dry hair and leave for twenty minutes then shampoo out and you will have lovely, soft hair, I also melt a little more and rub it onto my scalp as an itchy scalp treatment. After bath if you still feel dry{doubtful} you can rub some on to your skin out of the jar. Sidenote in the jar it is solid and it melts at room temp plus.

Another way I like to use it is by rubbing a lot onto my frankly awful feet and then covering with socks and wearing overnight. The next morning bye, bye dry feet. If you put a little onto your eyelashes it does condition them and you can rub a little onto dry lips as a balm.

There are another million and one coconut oil uses and most of the info you need is online. I got mine from Amazon and a big jar will set you back about £6. Go for cold pressed and organic for the best quality!.

Do you like coconut oil?? Have you tried it out? Leave a comment..

    Well, I’m a huge coconut oil fan. The only place I don’t use it is on my face because it is pretty high on the comedogenic scale…that is to say it clogs your pores, so I save rose hip or argan oil for my face. But everywhere else…coconut oil. I even make homemade baby wipes with it. I get mine from Costco in big jars too! It seems we’re kindred spirits…health food nuts that happen to have a sweet tooth…and a wine tooth! 🙂
