Mac ‘Hue’ Is mac worth the hype??

Makeup November 25, 2013 Naomi

I am not a massive buyer of mac makeup. I do like it, but then I find things on the high street for half the price that I like just as much, and I can’t justify spending the money on a mac product instead.

Mac Hue is a light, sheer, pinky nude colour that at first glance looks hard to wear. It is very sheer and so unless you have smooth conditioned lips it is going to show up every bit of dry skin. I always apply a lip balm first or scrub my lips with the Bubblegum lip scrub from Lush, then I wait a few minutes and apply my lipstick. This I find works best and makes the lipstick go on smoothly.

I Find that Mac lipsticks especially the glaze type like Hue are not particularly long lasting. On me it tends to last no more than a couple of hours and then I need to re-apply. I do love the look of it though on my lips, it looks creamy and glossy and I like how pale the colour is. I have fair skin and on my skin tone it looks nice, I am not sure how well it would look on a darker complexion with it being so pale.

As it is not a strong lip colour it is easy to apply and the texture is quite balm like. Fragrance wise some people have said it smells of vanilla but mine does not particularly smell of anything.

Overall I really like this lipstick for the look on the lip. I find the colour to be very flattering and I find myself wearing it quite often. I don’t think I will buy many more Mac lipsticks unless I find a shade I really fall in love with. At fifteen pounds it is not the worlds cheapest lipstick and you can buy good if not better lipsticks on the high street. I know a lot of Beauty girls rave about Mac and I do love it as a brand, but I am not always so ready to justify the price. It is not the most moisturising lip product I own either and if I am honest I prefer my Revlon Lip Butters.

If you love or hate mac lipsticks, or you prefer a different brand, leave me a comment below!

I have never owned a MAC product. I am the same in the fact there are so many amazing amazing products on the high street I can’t bring myself to shed out a load of cash on something I can find for cheaper. Maybe one day I will find something from MAC I just can’t get elsewhere and will treat myself! Xx

Totally agree Kim, I know people rave about them but unless I am blown away by one of their products I know I can find cheaper elsewhere.

I have many Mac lipsticks but I agree with you, not all the shades are any good or last longer than a Highstreet/Drugstore brand, yet we spend so much on them. I purchased most the hyped up shades, much to my disappointment with a few. I love the Rimmel Kate Moss lipsticks they smell lovely and last on the lips 🙂 xx

I honestly have never tried any Mac products because I do not like these ladies who work in those stores! LOL! So it is quiet interesting to read that you like it but do not hype about it. I really wonder why so many girls buy this stuff? Loved reading your review! Keep up the good work! XOXO, Sissi http://www.beauty4free2u.com

Thanks Sissi, I know most Beauty girls rave about Mac and get all the collections, but I honestly think a lot of high street stuff is better.x

I have several MAC lipsticks but I’ve learned that it’s the name that’s important to some. It’s not important to me and I don’t see a need to buy more. Except the Viva Glam line, I can get behind buying a lipstick for charity. I’ve discovered many lipstick brands and shades once I stepped outside the MAC box. Thanks for sharing. (◕‿◕✿)

Yes I think you are right Shalunya, sometimes it is the name rather then the product.x
