Product Fails

Chit chat September 20, 2013 Naomi

As most of my posts have had quite a positive spin on them I thought I would talk about the products I have not liked or got on with as much.

First a real disappointment for me, I love the Bare minerals loose foundations. Made from natural ingredients they are kind to the skin and do not clog pores or cause break outs. I have gotten through a few pots now since I discovered them on QVC. Because they are such a good product I was really excited to try their ‘ready foundation’ which comes in a compact like a pressed powder does. Good grief where do I start. The colour which was the lightest as I have fair skin was terrible on me! I looked like a shiny ghost! it was so pale yet shimmery at the same time. The finish was also really bad, when I checked in the mirror after wearing it for a few hours I was shocked, it had sunk into the pores on my nose and looked dry and cakey on the rest of my face. Now this is not a cheap product,it retails for around £25 and for that I was really cross, what a complete waste of money. Sorry to all those that love this product but for me it was a definite fail.

Next I must rant about the MUA eye shadows. Now I know these are very cheap price wise and you cannot expect miracles when you are paying a pound, but practically every one I have purchased has broken in the little compact. They start off by crumbling  and then one knock and the whole thing is broken into tiny pieces. Colour wise the pay off is not brilliant and they do crease on me. I will say that I do have one that I like which is ‘shade 17 matt’ It is a nude and is great as a base colour. For some strange reason I have had this one for over a year and it is still in one piece. most of the others were gone in a month.

Another Fail for me are the ‘myface lil bling’ nail polishes. The colours were great, I had a metallic gold colour and a silver. I painted them on the nails and from then on the trouble started. First they were streaky and looked almost watery on my nails. I waited and added another layer, it did help but I wasn’t totally sold on the finish. I let them dry and let me tell you I think they lasted for all of a day before the colour started to flake and peel off in places. Now I don’t expect miracles but I do expect nail polish to at least last the day. At a later date I tried them with a top coat added, it did not help much. The damn things do not last!!.

Lastly I turn to the Clinique facial soap. I had read some good reviews about it, and even though I was dubious about putting a soap on my face I was willing to give it a try. All I can say is for me it was horrible. It smells truly awful, a chemically smell that reminds me of hospitals or cleaning products. It dried my skin out like the Sahara desert and I was left with sore cheeks after using it for a few days. It also leaves behind a residue that feels nasty on the skin. I gave up on this after a few days and went back to my Cleanse and polish. My skin is combination for any that were wondering. For me this was a total Fail and far too harsh.

Now this post is totally personal and you may love any of the above, let me know if you have had good experiences.

Have you had any product fails?? leave a comment.

Hi, and thank you for sharing your disappointments. I’ve had problems with BareMinerals from the beginning, but I do use other mineral makeup brands successfully. Sadly, not every product is good for everyone.
A product I hated was the Body Shop Rainforest Shampoo. It was so harsh, that my scalp developped some sort of surfactant allergy. Whenever I used it, the scalp felt dry, itchy, and it flaked like mad, although I had never had issues with dandruff previously. Three years later, I still get very irritated occasionally. Beware for this product!

It is always a shame when products don’t live up to expectations. I will avoid the Body shop shampoo! I have a sensitive scalp and I can imagine it being too harsh for me also.x

Yes I know a few of my friends love their products and I do like the mosaic blush which I will do a review of soon, but the eye shadows are not for me.

What a shame.. I personally love the MUA shadows – I’ve depotted mine into a palette and had them for a while now but I do understand what you are saying I had a blush from them which I repurchased twice but each time it would break even if I repressed it.

I haven’t heard great review about the BareMineral Ready Pressed Foundation either. I watched GossMakeUp review and he was not too in love with the product either. I have yet to try my first real BareMineral MakeUp product. I had a trial of the loose matte foundation John Lewis but I just didn’t that much for so I passed on it tbh. It so annoying when a product does pan out to what you’d hope it be.

Very interesting blod, there’s so many useful info. I must sadly admit that I was so dissappointed by Chanel foundation Aqua Vitalumiere, I must say that I get a rash after using it ( and I’m not an allergic person) and I felt like a was wearing a mask, it was so heavy and sticky.
