Things that make you Happy

Chit chat November 22, 2015 Naomi

Bit of a rambly post this one so apologies if this isn’t your sort of thing. I have been thinking lately about family situations and life and how we all have to be so precious with our time and how we spend it. I am a single mum and I also work, my time in the week is full of appointments and rushing around and my lovely daughter. Weekends are just as hectic with friends and shopping and cleaning and sometimes if I am lucky a bit of blogging. This does not leave a lot of time for me. We all now how important it is for our wellbeing to do things that make us happy, and so I decided that during my hectic week I would consciously do things just for me that make me smile and to surround myself with the things I love.

Now everybody is different, for my brother nothing is more relaxing than sitting by a freezing cold pond and catching fish, but personally I would rather stick pins in my eyes,so you may look at my list and go “Not my sort of thing” but I suppose that’s the beauty of what makes us all unique. Here then is my happy list…

First off is Yoga. Not the sitting in lycra with a bunch of strangers type of yoga, that to me is not relaxing, I do mine at home when the house is quiet {that means my daughter is at her Nanna’s!}.I light a few candles, shut the blinds and then find a routine I like and get on with it, usually being stared at by the cat. I love yoga because it not only chills me out but I find it clears my mind and stops me thinking about everything.

My next happy thing is beauty products. I have loved and adored all things makeup and bath bits since I was six and got my Barbie beauty set full of cheap makeup and talc!!. I have to say it is now a bit of an obsession{see the beauty box} but it truly does make me content, even if I am just trying out new things or re-using an old favourite.

Gardening is another thing I do to de-stress. Planting is my favourite thing, finding a pack of seeds or bulbs, throwing them in, crossing my fingers and seeing what grows. In the winter months when I can’t go out I buy more flowers for the house. The orchid is my latest purchase.

Shopping I think will feature on 90% of girls lists. Again this is something I have loved since I was little, and my mum and her Aunt used to take me to our local town and we would have lunch and then buy clothes. I have such happy memories of this and now it is something I do with my daughter, even if it is just window shopping. I also love going alone, having a coffee, and then slowly pottering around all the shops.

Lastly and some may find this odd but I love to tidy things. Possibly I have a touch of OCD, I cannot settle if I know the house is messy, even if it is not in my eye line, if it needs tidying I will do it. I have often joked that I could go on obsessive compulsive cleaners. I do love a ordered house with everything in its place, messy people to me are just irritating{sorry messy people}. I do find a sense of calm when the house smells of bleach and all the surfaces are clear.

What makes you happy?? are you a weirdo who loves to bleach like me or do you like something totally different? Leave a comment..

As sad as this sounds having a bath makes me happy. Being a mum I don’t get much time for myself so once a week I have a child free bath with a lush bath bomb and watch some Netflix for a hour. It really helps me relax

Totally surround yourself with things that make you happy. Life is short, so enjoy it! I share a number of life’s pleasures with you – notably beauty products and shopping. Great therapy both. Gardening is not my thing (each to their own of course). So I would substitute that with weight training – I am a tad obsessed. Tx

I love this! I think it’s so important to surround yourself with what you love, it makes you a better person and I think that will be a fantastic lesson for your daughter too. For me, I love taking time out of my day to take a ballet class or go for a run so that I can clear my head.
